About
Located in 798 Art Zone, Beijing, Inter Art Center & Gallery is one of the most authoritative photography institutions in China. With a large space of more than 1,000 square meters, Inter Art Center features the Pixel Magazine Publishing House, the Pixel Bookstore and a café. Since its founding in 2006, Inter Art Center has been devoted to collecting, conserving, and exhibiting classic photography, as well as presenting contemporary art, new media art, and experimental art.
A large number of important photo books as well as series of books on theoretical photography studies have been produced by Inter Art Center’s own design and publishing studio. Founded in April 2009, Pixel Magazine is China's only high-quality photography quarterly.
While collaborating with many outstanding Chinese and foreign photographers and artists, since 2007, Inter Art Center has participated in planning and has become valued partner to photo festivals including China Pingyao International Photography Festival, Lianzhou Foto, Xishuangbanna Foto Festival, etc..
In support of the development of Chinese ethnic minority photography and the pluralistic development of Chinese native culture, Inter Art Center founded “Country Road: Chinese Ethnic Minority Photography Prize” in 2015; in order to discover, encourage, and provide support to lens-based artists concerned with social change and minority groups, and offer opportunities to creatively expand the boundaries of documentary photography, “Inter Art Center New Documentaries Prize” was started in 2017.
With regards to international affairs, Inter Art Center has established deep and extensive co-operative relations with international photography institutions such as Maison Européenne de la Photographie, International Center of Photography and George Eastman Museum.
